SunTech Medical announced on March 7, 2023 that they will begin the process of changing the connection between the blood pressure hose and the blood pressure cuff on the Oscar 2 Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitors (ABPM). SunTech Medical will no longer be using the quick connect connector at the end of the blood pressure hose to connect to the blood pressure cuff on these devices. They are transitioning to the bayonet style blood pressure hose connector. SunTech Medical will start shipping the bayonet and rectus connectors in the next few weeks. All future shipments of the Oscar 2 will include the bayonet and rectus style connectors. The blood pressure hose will have the bayonet connector and the blood pressure cuff will have the rectus connector. Please contact MedSource Southest if you have further questions.
History: In August of 2022, SunTech Medical stated that “Oscar 2 monitors and accessories are in the process of being updated to comply with the ISO 80369-5 limb cuff inflation standard for blood pressure cuffs – all Oscar 2 system monitors will change from using the quick connect-style connectors to rectus and bayonet-style connectors.”
The following statement applies to any users of the old connection type:
“Caution: As this medical device may use an alternative small-bore connector design different from those specified in the ISO 80369 series, there is the possibility that a misconnection can occur between this medical device and a medical device using a different alternative small-bore connector, which can result in a hazardous situation causing harm to the patient. Special measures need be taken by the user to mitigate these reasonable, foreseeable risks.”
